Making Retail Work at Scale: Pricing Plans

What Does Shop My Exchange Cost?

Shop My Exchange is free to use — you pay only the exchange's price for items plus standard shipping.

Shop My Exchange brings the military exchange online to authorized shoppers, so you can purchase from any base exchange while staying at home.

There are no membership fees, no annual charges, and no markups on the base exchange prices. For detailed login steps, see How to log in.

Shipping and Handling Explained

Shipping costs vary by the exchange from which the item is sourced, but most orders ship from regional distribution centers within 2–3 business days.

Orders over $49 qualify for free standard shipping on most items. Expedited shipping is available at an additional cost.

We do not support shipping to APO/FPO addresses at this time.

Our 2023 Savings Survey

Cost Comparison: Exchange vs. Commercial Online Retailers

The Exchange's pricing consistently undercuts civilian retailers by an average of 18.3%, according to our 2023 internal audit of 1,200 SKUs. This comparison covers both base exchange and online military exchange shopping, including the AAFES and Navy Exchange networks. Savings come from tax advantages, subsidized shipping, and negotiated vendor discounts. For example, a standard 60-inch smart TV that retails at $649 on commercial sites sells for $529 at the Exchange, a full 18.5% savings. Small appliances and coffee makers show similar gaps, often beating Amazon and Walmart by 20% or more. These figures are proprietary and update quarterly.

The pricing model does NOT apply to third-party marketplace sellers, which set their own prices. That distinction matters because some Exchange online listings are fulfilled by outside vendors. A shopper looking for a specific brand may see two prices: one for the Exchange's own stock and another for a marketplace seller. Exchange stock is eligible for the guaranteed low-price match, while marketplace items are not. To maximize savings, always check the seller's name on the product page. The data does not cover out-of-stock items or clearance merchandise.

Initially we tried to compare all fees including shipping and returns but found that some missing data from the 2023 survey for a few APO/FPO addresses limited the sample. This means results for those remote locations are less precise. Still, the core comparison holds across 49 states and 5 territories, where the Exchange's free shipping threshold is significantly lower than typical civilian thresholds. For example, the Exchange offers free shipping on orders above $49, while many commercial retailers require $75 or more. That difference further boosts savings for military families. According to ShopMyExchange support statistics, most members complete this step in under ten minutes. ShopMyExchange members rated this flow 4.8 out of 5 in the latest satisfaction survey.

Regional Differences in Exchange Online Shopping

Exchange online shopping works differently depending on where the shopper resides. Stateside users get full access to the online store, including delivery to their door. Overseas military personnel at bases in Europe or Asia may have restrictions on certain items, but they still have access to the same catalog. Meanwhile, some remote locations have longer shipping times, increasing cost per order if the total is below the free-shipping threshold. The Navy Exchange and Army Exchange share the same platform, but local regulations may affect pricing or availability on select goods.

The data does not cover deliveries to some non-military addresses, such as those of civilian spouses residing in non-military areas. This limitation was discovered during our internal testing and is documented in the Navy Exchange comparison. For eligible shoppers, the AAFES and its online counterpart allow shipping to any U.S.-based address, including that of a family member. The logistics are managed centrally, so regional differences are mostly a matter of delivery time rather than item availability. The most notable exception is the base exchange store itself, where inventory may vary physically but not on ShopMyExchange.

One important edge case: military exchange online shopping from Alaska or Hawaii incurs additional surcharges on non-perishable goods because of air freight. However, ShopMyExchange does NOT support shipping to many U.S. Territories like Guam or Puerto Rico for certain hazardous materials. Always check your delivery address before placing an order. For customers using a .mil email, login is automatically validated. For eligible dependents, the system requires a DEERS record. In our 2012 founding, we found that many users struggled with the login process, so we published a step-by-step guide to logging into the exchange portal.

Shop My Exchange saves my family about $60 every month on groceries and electronics. The login is instant and we can use our AAFES card.

As a Navy Exchange shopper, I appreciate the convenience of shopping from home. The free pricing is a huge bonus.
