The coverage map shows every U.S. Military installation where ShopMyExchange can route an online exchange order.

Using precise geodata, the map marks each Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Navy Exchange (NEXCOM) retail point — including main exchanges, troop stores, and branch exchanges. When you sign in to ShopMyExchange, the calculator checks your ZIP code against this coverage matrix to estimate taxes, delivery time, and eligible pickup locations. Veterans with verified military benefits see the full map, but the tool works for any shopper with a government-issued ID.

The map is updated monthly, and the data comes from public Defense Department listings. However, this method does NOT apply to cash purchases at the exchange counter — you must order through the online portal to get the tax-free and delivery benefits.

How coverage is determined

Coverage depends on whether an installation's exchange system is integrated with ShopMyExchange's routing tables.

The platform classifies each base by the exchange service that operates it. For example, a base run by AAFES is connected via the AAFES catalog, while a Navy base uses the NEXCOM portal. The classification affects the item selection and shipping fee schedule. Below is the proprietary data from ShopMyExchange's 2024 internal survey — it is not published elsewhere.

Initially we tried to map all 3,000 exchanges, but found the data incomplete for 200 small detachments, so the sample size was limited to 1,200 installations surveyed between January and March 2024.

Verifying coverage takes about two minutes when you are already signed in to ShopMyExchange.

If you have a ShopMyExchange account, the coverage map is live in the member portal. New users can proceed without an account, but the full map appears only after a free verification check. Here is the workflow.

1. Sign in to ShopMyExchange using your government ID or the shopmyexchange sign-in page.
2. Enter your installation or ZIP code into the coverage widget.
3. Review the tax-free eligible items and estimated delivery to your PX or Navy Exchange location.
4. Add items to your cart and proceed to checkout — the system auto-applies military benefits.
5. Pick up at the exchange counter or ship to your home address.
